“Creativity is the way I share my soul with the world.” Brené Brown

I’ve been thinking recently about what creativity means to me. The Dictionary says “Creativity is the use of the imagination or original ideas, especially in the production of an artistic work.” All well and good but I wonder sometimes what artistic work I produce. I’m not a painter, a sculptor, or a harp player – as much as I would love to be all of these things. And believe me, I’ve tried (not the harp, but a woman can dream!).

So what exactly is creativity if not those works of art? I think the answer lies in the first part of that definition: imagination. Creativity comes from imagination and it can be expressed in a million different ways. How freeing!

I create workshops that touch lives. I create beauty when I sing. I create joy when I use color to express myself. I create hope when I remind people that all of us (each one) is a child of the Divine Spark that created and loves us.

All of these things (and so much more) are the ways in which I share my soul with the world.

Sharing Your Soul

Sometimes I think we stay away from claiming our creativity unless it falls under the “artistic” category. But tending to friendships, working a job that calls upon your knowledge and fortitude, raising a child, keeping the spark in a marriage, painting the walls in a house, dreaming of the next steps in your journey, keeping a journal, listening, showing up for life, are all creative and all ways you can share your soul. And there’s so much more!

Let Your Light Shine

Claim it! Claim the creativity in your life and celebrate it. Don’t be hesitant, be joyful. You have a lot to give and the world needs what you’ve got.
